The government shutdown was hard on our national parks, including Yosemite, where empty ranger stations and overflowing trash bins created an eerie tableau. A photo like this one, however, shows us why these areas of our country are national treasures and must be protected.
This issue: Our intrepid 19-year-old photographer, Nash Rood, traveled to Yosemite during the shutdown and shot this—“Sunset on El Capitan”—on 35 mm film. It’s our first black-and-white Sunset Chasers, keeping the Ansel Adams tradition alive and well.
OF NOTE: THE NATIONAL PARK FOUNDATION HAS ESTABLISHED THE PARKS RESTORATION FUND TO HELP WITH RECOVERY (DONATE AT NATIONALPARKS.ORG).
